I think Simon is so eager to volunteer to go across the island himself, because he doesn't believe that there is a beast, but the beast is in each of the boys. Becuase of this, Simon is more than happy to be by himslef in the forest. Also I don't think Simon would think of the littleuns and piggy as beasts becuase they are not as savage as the others. Simon knows he is the least afraid of the group in the island from the beast, as he has absolutely no belief in it's existance outside of the boys.

Why do you think Simon is so eager to volunteer to go across the island to tell Piggy and the littluns what they're doing? Simon would feel much more comfortable going across the island in the dark than the other boys because he doesn't believe in the beast at all. Also he spends much time walking around in nature and also he appears to like being alone. He would have been eager to go because of this.

Simon is eager to leave the boys because he doesn't believe in the beast with claws and sharp teeth, but the destruction that the boys are causing instead. He believes the greatest danger is the boys; "maybe it’s only [themselves]." He also thinks it would be more dangerous to be surrounded by potentially, the 'beast', than it would be walking through the forest by himself back to Piggy. Yes you can see that Simon believes in that the beast is actually the boys and if Simon does not have to be anywhere near them then he will take the chance.

Why do you think Simon is so eager to volunteer to go across the island to tell Piggy and the littluns what they're doing? I think Simon is so eager to volunteer because he isn't afraid of the island like the other boys. He appreciates the beauty of the island and because he doesn't believe in the beast, he isn't scared of wondering around at night.
