Mr Bob Ewell, the father of Mayella whom is in court against the assault of Tom Robinson, is a pathological liar who brought his daughter down in his disgusting lies. He beats her when finding out about Tom Robinson (a 'negro') in his house by invite of Mayella, and pleads that her abusive injuries are the cause of Tom Robinson. Mr Bob Ewell is a very racist man who represents the racial discrimination against the African-American community by his comments and actions.

We also learn that he is left-handed, and seeing as all Mayella's bruises were on the right side of her face and Tom's left hand was severely injured at the time, Mr Ewell has to be lying because there is no way Tom could've done it. Therefore we find out that it was Mr Ewell who beat up is daughter, not Tom. |
