List and explain three reasons why you think Mayella does not have any friends. I believe Mayella doesnt have any friends because: - In the absence of a mother, and the money to hire a maid, Mayella has to spend her time tending to the kids instead of going out and socializing with the fellow women in Maycomb. - The women in Maycomb would not want to be friends with Mayella, as she is poor and of a disgraced background. She is therefore a social outcast and of no use to them as their friend. - Mayella herself has no confidence nor want to go out and socialize due to the shame Bob Ewell has inflicted on the Ewell family .

-Mayella stays at home all the time instead of using time to socialize with others. -She may herself even be scared of going out and making friends as she feels safe at home and feels that there are many dangers outside her house. -Her wealth may be a factor as she is poor and the other people of maycomb do not want to socialize as she is different.

I agree, because she doesn't attend school she doesn't socialise to any children her age. And because she lives so far away from other people in the town, she is often by herself. I don't think all women would not want to be friends with Mayella because of she is poor, but most white people.

Atticus would also accept her, but she probably couldn't visit him because Aunt Alexandra wouldn't let her in.

I think these are really good points. I really like the point you brought up about her wealth and how she feels discouraged by it.

I agree that she could be nervous about going out and making friends. I also think that she might be worried to because of her father and his drinking problem as well as because of the things he does to her, hitting her and so forth, probably making her feel worthless.

I agree with these points. I'd also add that she probably can't leave home because she has too much to help with. But no one will visit her because of her dad's problems(eg. drinking). As you said, her wealth, as well as her location, also discourages most people to see the point in becoming friends with her.

-She stays at home to look after the kids -People don't want to talk to her as she is a Ewell - She lacks confidence

I agree and think that Mayella must be frightened that she may stuff up in her dads eyes. I think she must be frightened and this abusive relationship may scare here from other possible relationships that may end badly.

1. i think that her husband bob ewell has a lot to do with it, others may be afraid of being around her because of him. 2. mayella has to stay at home most of the time to do the things around the house that a mad would usually do, and take care of her kids. 3. people in the town judge mayella, if they were friends with her they would be worried about there own reputation as she is very poor and nothing impressive to them

List and explain three reasons why you think Mayella does not have any friends. -She is without confidence -people wouldn't want to fraternise with her because of her social status as a member of the Ewell family -Because their family has no maid or mother, she has to stay home and look after the kids

There are many different reasons that Mayella doesn't have friends including; - She is a Ewell and so she isn't popular among the townsfolk - She doesn't make an effort to socialize and make friends around town, as she has never been to school she has never made friends her own age - She has many siblings to look after at home so she wouldn't have much time to socialize anyway

It may also be because, if she went to school, she would have only been there for the first day of school and was unable to make any friends with the children in her class that she could und have kept.

The Ewell's are considered to be the dregs of the white society, and in a town filled with people that judge others based on their family history Mayella wouod have a very hard time making friends.
