Tom is as polite, kind and respectful, and has manners that are "as good as Atticus's", which is significant because his manners are ignored and overlooked because of his colour.

Tom is as polite, kind and respectful, and has manners that are "as good as Atticus's", which is significant because his manners are ignored and overlooked because of his colour. It also shows a contrast between him and Mr Ewell. They are both in similar situations, yet Tom is respectful.

I agree, I think it was definitely something to do with the colour that people think for some reason he won't have as good of manners as someone else.

I agree and it's very interesting to see how one can be disrespected and ignored for showing the same good manners as a well respected person among society purely based on the colour of his skin. It also shows how he contrast that he has with other black people and also Mr Ewell. They are all in similar circumstances yet Tom chooses to be polite and respectful.

Tom is very polite and kind to everyone. He has manners "as good as" what Atticus does. His respectfulness is often overlooked because of his colour.

I also think that Tom has amazing manners, he definitely shows respect for anyone and is very kind-hearted. I like how you mentioned that they are overlooked because of his colour, i think that is accurate but very unfair to him and the entire community.

Are Tom's manners as good as Atticus'? Is there any significance regarding his manners? Integrate a quote to support your answer. Yes, Tom's manners "were as good as Atticus'." He is a gentleman to Mayella, to Atticus and to the other parties involved in the trial. This shows that he is deserving of the same respect that Atticus receives but because of his colour, this doesn't happen.

Are Tom's manners as good as Atticus'? Is there any significance regarding his manners? Integrate a quote to support your answer. Toms manners are very good and he is a very polite and respectful man. This makes the audience pity him for what happens to him. Regardless of evidence, Tom Robinson is a better person than Mr Ewell and therefore doesn't deserve to lose to him. If Tom had poor manners the audience would be more inclined to think the wrongful conviction was deserving, but with Tom having such good manners the audience knows he doesn't deserve it and can see the racism clearer.

Are Tom's manners as good as Atticus'? Is there any significance regarding his manners? Integrate a quote to support your answer. Tom is very polite, calls everyone "suh," and respectful when he is speaking to others, which shows just how biased the community is when they consider a man like Mr Ewell's opinion to be more important than his. Although his manners are diffrent to Atticus' they are just as good.

I agree too, but I feel the black people are made to act in a certain way around the white people and comply to the rules of the white which means they have to be polite.

Are Tom's manners as good as Atticus'? Is there any significance regarding his manners? Integrate a quote to support your answer. Toms manners are as equivalent to the manners of Atticus with his dutiful "yes, suh," and "no, suh," but despite this, his manners are overlooked because of his race and current position in society as an accused rapist.
