I think Atticus tries to avoid firearms at all cost,s as when he is forced to shoot the mad dog, he is very reluctant to do so. I don't think Atticus sees it as a courageous act as Jem seems to because it does sort of go against everything Atticus stands for. Atticus makes sure to remind him that "courage is not a man with a gun in his hand". Perhaps from Atticus's experience as a lawyer, he has seen many cases and hurt caused to families due to the use of firearms.

I believe that he doesn't like guns as he doesn't want to shoot the dog and that 'courage is not a man with a gun in his hand'

How would you describe, in your own words, Atticus' personal position on firearms? Integrate a quote into your response. he believes that having guns brings on violence and that violence is unnecessary. he says that owning a gun is "an invitation for somebody to shoot you"

I also think it goes against everything he stands for and it forced into killing the dog to protect everyone.

How would you describe, in your own words, Atticus' personal position on firearms? Integrate a quote into your response. I would describe Atticus' personal view on guns to be disgusted as he seemed reluctant to shoot the mad dog, and also reminding Jem that 'courage is not a man with a gun in his hand' after Jem started to idolise Atticus over his 'courageous' actions. I agree. I think he also feels afraid of the power guns give him as well as disgusted, since Miss Maudie she thought he stopped using guns after "he realized that God had given him an unfair advantage over most living things."
