How much of a surprise is it to find what Boo Radley is really like? Has the story before this point
prepared the reader for this discovery?

It's a big surprise because people had thought Boo was crazy but in the end it turns out that he is really a nice and quiet guy.

There had always been rumors that Boo Radley was crazy and that he had stabbed his father but really Boo was scared of the outside world.

It's a big surprise because people had thought Boo was crazy but in the end it turns out that he is really a nice and quiet guy. The story does prepare you for this as throughout the novel it foreshadows Boo's kindness by leaving the children gifts so it isn't really a surprise that he saves the children. |

After all of the false judgments and rumours that were spread about Boo Radley, it's hard to find out that he is such a nice a caring person.
