They chose Ralph as their chief by voting between Jack or Ralph. All of the choir boys voted for Jack and all of the others voted for Ralph. There are more boys outside of the choir, so Ralph won.

Explain why the boys elect Ralph as their chief. Ralph is elected chief by a majority vote. The boys had many reasons to elect Ralph. He was good looking and had control of the powerful conch. "There was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch" pg 30. Right from the start Ralph showed leadership and initiative and he was the one that used the conch to call all the boys on island together. He was also the one that put forward the idea of electing a chief.

The boys elected Ralph as their leader as he was the one who showed more leadership skills and initiative. Being attractive may also have had something to do with the quick trust the boys felt toward him. He was also the one who called all of the boys using the conch shell.

Explain why the boys elect Ralph as their chief. I believe that the boys didn't give much thought into who they would elect as their chief at all. It was more of a choice between who was the most assertive and in control of the group than who they thought could lead them through the difficulties of being without guidance from adults. Ralph seemed like the obvious chose, he held the conch;"Let him be chief with the trumpet-thing." He was commanding and centred at the front of the group, he had called them all together in the first place and he seemed like a person who could have some fun. I believe that the choir boys only voted for Jack through loyalty and fear of what might happen if they didn't.

Because the boys are young and naive they don't really think about the importance of the desicion they're making. They choose Ralph because he holds the conch and also probably because he has a certain angelic appearance about him, and is certainly more attractive than Jack.

The boys elect ralph as chief because of a majority vote, them main reason for voting for ralph was because "There was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch" pg 30. Ralph aslo showed his presence right from the start by calling all of the boys with the conch.

The boys seem to elect Ralph purely on the fact that he was the initial speaker, and he was holding the conch. He was the guy who summoned the group together, therefor maintaining the dominance in the atmosphere. He was elected the leader by majority, as Jack's voters only came from his choir group (smaller than the rest of the group) and the other boys were a little intimidated by him.

Explain why the boys elect Ralph as their chief. they had a vote on whether the leader should be jack or ralph. all the choir boys voted for jack while the others votes for ralph. many of the boys might've voted for ralph because of his attractive appearance or the fact that he was the one who called them all there. ralph ended up winning so he was elected chief.

Explain why the boys elect Ralph as their chief. The boys had elected Ralph as their chief as he had a very “attractive” appearance. He had a good size and most of all, Ralph was the one who had the conch, which in the boys eyes, meant that he was quite powerful. Therefore, they voted his as leader over Jack.

Explain why the boys elect Ralph as their chief. '' There was size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch." From the very beginning, Ralph shows leadership and bravery. Other then the choir boys, who follow Jack, Ralph has become somewhat admired by the boys.

I think they choose Ralph as the leader because he tells them that his father is in the navy and would come to rescue them all in his big boat and that there would be lots of people looking for them. They also chose him because he was attractive, his size, he also held the conch which give him the power to speak allowing people to see he had authority and leadership. He was the obvious choice between Jack and Ralph in the boys eyes.

Explain why the boys elect Ralph as their chief. The boys elect Ralph as their chief, because they still exist in the age group where good looks and athleticism rule supremely over the perhaps more important intelligence. Evidence has shown that in a situation of an election where adolescent boys are placed in election situations, the most good looking, strong and “important looking” boy will be chosen. Ralph fits into this character profile. He is described as having a “golden body” and is seen at the “election” holding the conch. He is the obvious choice, but as I see it, not the best.

He was just there.

I think as well as having good looks Ralph has a certain air about him that would have appealed to the boys. While he hasn't exactly shown any kindness yet, he just seems like he'd be sympathetic and perhaps merciful to any who did wrong. He also has a childish innocence about him that makes him more likeable and approachable. This along with his good looks, the fact he is one of the oldest and the conch would have made him the obvious choice for the boys.
