In chapter 4 Crooks says to Lennie "superpose that George didn't come back" and Lennie got upset and said "who hurt George" and also Candy's wife just's wants a friend to talk to.

Candy tells George that Curley is a small man that has a grudge against bug The theme of loneliness in this chapter is that it surrounds George telling Candy that him and Lennie travel together because they are both mutually friends.
