What favour does George ask of Candy and why?

Upon Candys discovery of Curley's dead wife, George asks that he cover for him while he goes back to he bunkhouse, so it will look like that George had no part in what Lennie accidentally did.

The favour was to cover up the death of Curley's wife to give Lennie time to go to the river. George told him to go to the river in the beginning if he got in trouble. George wants to give Lennie time to go to the hiding spot at the river because he wants to hide Lennie from Curley and the other men. |
