Ralph longs for civilisation again, in contrast to Jack. What is it that he senses is missing that is so important? Ralph misses his toothbrush, soap and scissors. this suggests that, unlike jack, he misses being a civilised boy.

Ralph longs for civilisation again, in contrast to Jack. What is it that he senses is missing that is so important? Ralph misses how he felt at home and reading books and little things such as his toothbrush, a pair of scissors to cut his hair, and soap. These little things show that after all, he is still a boy and still misses things that made him feel close to civilisation. He also would be missing the safety and the secure feeling of his home before he was sent away. He also misses the feeling of living without a threat to his survival. Living in England had a much more civilised culture and Ralph longs for that feeling again.

Ralph longs for civilisation again, in contrast to Jack. What is it that he senses is missing that is so important? Ralph says he is missing his house and other material possessions but I think what he is really missing is the comfort of home and not having to have any responsibility. He has a huge job trying to keep all the boys alive and in line and I think that deep down he really wants that weight lifted off his shoulders.

Ralph misses the safety and comfort of his bedroom and all of his sanitary items like toothbrush, pair of scissors and a bar of soap. All these items make ralph feel more respectable and clean.

Ralph misses a few things from his previous life specifically. These items include a toothbrush, a pair of scissors and a bar if soap. These are all items that would make him, not only clean, but respectable, proving that he, and all the other boys, are becoming uncivilised. When he reflects on when life was like in one of his houses, you get a sense on how much he just wishes to be safe at home. I agree with you, Ralph wishes to be home safe again. Unlike Jack, he doesn't wish to be on the island and he craves the comforts of civilisation.
