How does Piggy show “intellectual daring”? Why is this so significant to the boys? Just when all the other boys are frightened and helpless, Piggy steps in and suggests an alternative of building a fire on the beach. It gives the boys a lot more hope for rescue compared to never having smoke again. Piggy has become confident and sure of his role, which allows him to say any ideas out of the ordinary. His intelligence is respected by some boys and it is relied upon more often. Without it, they could not be as motivated to be rescued. This could possibly suggest that intelectualism is more powerful to those who obtain it than the forces of primitivity and savagery.

How does Piggy show “intellectual daring”? Why is this so significant to the boys? Piggy shows intellectual daring by suggesting they move the signal fire to the beach. This is an act of daring because the signal fire had previously always been on the mountain, it was almost like a tradition. This is significant because previously Piggy had been too afraid of Jack to suggest anythung so bold, but is now more confident.
