What foolish decision does Jack make during the hunt, and why is it foolish? The foolish decision Jack makes during the hunt, or more correctly, after the sow is dead, is that he leaves the guts on a rock to be eaten by the flies. This is a very silly idea because not only will the guts go rotten and stink up the island, if there is a dangerous animal on the island , the guts will attract it. Plus if there are any boys in the area if or when the animal is around, they could get attacked. Plus, I doubt he washed his hands after touch raw meat and that means he could get sick. Really sick.

What foolish decision does Jack make during the hunt, and why is it foolish? Jack makes the decision of leaving some of the pigs remains at the place where they killed it. He leaves the guts lying on the ground (which will rot quite quickly and smell) and he leaves the head of the sow on the stick. I think the foolish decision he makes would be leaving the guts on the rock. He assumes that the flies will eat it but if there are other animals on the island that they don't know about, they could also eat it. There's also the possibility that nothing will eat it and it will be left there to rot. This will make the island smell horrible and it's not like any of the boys will want to move the remains once it starts to rot.

I think you land on a good point by saying that he could get very sick of the raw meat. I highly doubt that he even realises the consequences of not washing his hands and that could seriously harm him.

Exactly and I think this is just another way Golding shows that without adults, the boys make irresponsible decisions with complete disregard for future consequences.

I agree that Jack could get really sick from the guts and that the guts could attract some wild animals to come near the boys. But I've also heard that wasps are attracted to raw meat, so some wasps might fly to the island and start building nests there which could be dangerous for the boys. The pig Jack decided to kill was also the only pig that the author described as having piglets, so it could be considered foolish that Jack decided to kill that pig because now all of its piglets have died and they've lost about six or seven pigs that they could've let live for a future hunt.

During the hunt jack makes the foolish decision of leaving the guts on the rocks. This is foolish because the guts could attract nearby animals, possible dangerous animals also jack had not washed his hands after tocuhng the raw meat so he could get sick by not washing his hands.

I like that you have realised that he did not wash his hands because you are right, he may very well become very sick and he probably doesn't actually know what could happen if you don't.
