To explain the events of the previous evening, Piggy, Ralph and Samneric say that they were 'on the outside' and then left the dance early because they were tired. This reveals that although they were present at the dance, they weren't exactly directly involved.

How to Piggy, Ralph, and Samneric try to explain the events of the previous evening? What does this reveal about their involvement? When Piggy, Ralph and Samneric try to explain the terrors of the pervious evening, they devolved that they were not close to the action but actually on the outside. They then say that the had to leave the dance earlier than the others because they were exhausted and wanted to rest. This information suggest that these four didn't actually have anything to do with the murder even though they attended the feast and danced.

These boys don't want to exactly feel like they were involved that night as someone died as a results for their role.

They are in denial that the boys have become killers as well. saying they weren't there makes the boys think that they are still civilised and things may have been different if they were there, maybe trying to show that ralph as the leader still means something.

To explain the events of the previous evening, Piggy, Ralph and Samneric say that they were 'on the outside' and then left the dance early because they were tired. This reveals that although they were present at the dance, they weren't exactly directly involved. Since the boys were still on the outside of the circle, it reveals that they were also turned slightly savage because of the dancing because they were still present at Simon's murder and didn't leave the ring of boys.
