What early impressions do we gain of George and Lennie from the opening scene set at the deep pool along the Salinas River?

we gain that George and Lennie have just come off a walk that wasn't planned due to the bus driver making them get off. They both seem tired and drained, George starts to snap at Lennie quite often at this river as he has the dead mouse with him and keeps going on about ketchup. Lennie doesn't know what he has done wrong, they both just need a good nights rest.

We learn that Lennie is reffered to as 'simple' but a hard worker.

We learn that George and Lennie have been walking for a while after the bus driver makes them get off the bus. They are both extremely drained and George has a short temper for Lennie. Lennie seems to annoy George by never remembering things and getting them into trouble. They need a good feed and some sleep to get to their new job the next day.

The impression we get of George and Lennie was that they had to walk for a long time because of a lazy driver who didn't want to park out the front of the ranch. George is a small lanky man apcompared to Lennie who's a largely built man.

George is a man who thinks things through and understands that actions have consequences because he has to keep getting Lennie out trouble. Lennie is a bit witted and doesn't think his actions through because he has a mental disability. He pets multiple objects that look soft.

The first impression we have is that George is only with Lennie because he feels bad for him but we find out that George actually likes the company Lennie gives him and would much rather be stuck with Lennie then be on his own.
