Why does Ralph think that the boy he sees is “not Bill”? Ralph thinks that the boy he sees is "not Bill" because the savage and cruel nature has completely taken over him. Ralph has no idea who this boy is now because he has unleashed the beast within and has no control whatsoever over it. Ralph knows Bill, but this is not how he knew him. He has changed in a way that is unrecognisable to Ralph

This represents how characters change in various difficult situations and particularly how when people are scared they resort to violence.

Why does Ralph think that the boy he sees is “not Bill”? Ralph does not think he saw Bill because the person inside the figure and appearance of Bill was a complete savage. Ralph only knew the boy before he changed and became savage. Bill is only a name for that figure, not a name for the person who Ralph knew. He could call Bill any name because it would seem like the two boys were meeting for the first time.

Ralph tries to connect the boy will what Bill used to be but cannot. Sometimes it is easier to recognise change in people when you are not changing yourself, so this may indicate that Ralph is not as savage as the rest of them

Why does Ralph think that the boy he sees is “not Bill”? Ralph sees the boy as "not Bill", because it was hard for him to think of this person as a once a nice British boy, but now he is very savage and dirty and definitely not like he used to be.

I agree that this shows the fact that everyone has changed, and the beast inside them all have come out. Ralph doesn't know anyone now, they are all different and strangers to him
