Why does Ralph hit the pig's head? After hiding out close to Jack's tribe, Ralph stumbles upon the pigs head that is now nothing but bones. He thinks it is smiling at him and reading his thoughts. He hits the pigs head but does no damage. Once again he hits the pig, again and again, until the head is broken on the ground. He then takes a stick to use as a spear. I think Ralph hit the head not only out of paranoia, but as a relief. He needed to take out his anger on the head, and in doing so becomes enraged and picks up a weapon. This suggests that the beast within Ralph has awoken.

He needed to let out and stress and anger. Hitting the pigs head could also be giving him a sense of enjoyment that he is destroying something that Jack cares about.

It is a very emotional scene for Ralph.

It is a very emotional scene for Ralph. When Simon talks to The Lord of the Flies, he sees him as the beast. The Lord of the Flies tries to taunt Simon into playing and away from focusing on being rescued. Now The Lord of the Flies is seen as smiling, almost as if it has won. the boys aren't trying to be rescued and now they are just playing. The fact that The Lord of the Flies is the object that Ralph lashes symbolises that Ralph is angry and upset that The Lord of the Flies has won.

I think that it was inevitable for the lord of the flies to win because of Jack's influence in the group of boys.

While Ralph is hiding from Jack and his tribe, he comes upon the pig's head (the Lord of the Flies). It regards him like 'one who knows all the answers and won't tell'. A sick fear and rage sweeps Ralph and he hits out at it, breaking the head in two. Ralph hits the pig because it represents the evil inside the boys and is therefore responsible for all the bad things that are happening on the island.

Why does Ralph hit the pig's head? Ralph hits the pigs head because he is angry and wants to destroy what jack has done to the island. Also now Ralph has destroyed Jack power, the pigs head, and Roger has destroyed Ralph's power, the conch.
