1. Truman's fear of the water is a main reason he can't leave the imaginary town of Seahaven is because of his father's supposed drowning because Seahaven is completely engulfed by ocean.
2. The reason Christof created Seahaven for Truman is because he wanted to protect him from the horrors of the real world because from Christof's words "Nothing can hurt you in my world" meaning Christof wanted what was best but became too controlling that it forced Truman to leave.
3.Truman's father's return from the drowning earlier in Truman's life mean't that Truman got sucked into the drama of it all before he finally knew that he needed to leave Seahaven.

1. Christof is really smart of how he use techniques to make Truman to be scared even more of leaving.
2. Even though Truman has a fear of water, at same time Christof uses Truman's emotion to his loved one to make him changing his mind about leaving.
3. As Truman open the door to the outside world, Christof begins to persuade and threaten Truman to not leave the show.

1. Truman is trapped in Seahaven by being manipulated by Christof, the director of the show, by his fear of the sea due to the death of his father and the use of the neighbour's dog. 2. The director plays with Truman's emotions to control him by using his loved ones to target him such as when Truman's mother getting sick so he couldn't go after Sylvia to Fiji or getting Marlon, Meryl and his mother to change his way of thinking. 3. Truman is manipulated into thinking that Seahaven is the place where he belongs and nowhere else in the world is better. This is done by the hidden messages in the newspapers, signs in the town and by what people say to him. This sounds like an amazing and well thought out plan, Elise! However I don't think 'the use of the neighbour's dog' is necessary in the first point; Truman's fear of the sea because of his father's death is strong enough to write about. But everything else looks great!

1. Christoph keeps Truman in Seahaven by having it surrounded by water - something that he wouldn't dare enter after previous experiences. 2. Christof's reasoning for using fear to keep Truman in Seahaven is that he wishes to protect Truman from the "horrors" of the real world. 3. However, when Truman tries to leave Seahaven, Christof uses a stormy sea to try to get through to Truman that he should not leave, trying to scare him into staying. This is contradictory, as although he claims to be protecting Truman, that experience would have been terrifying.

This is a good plan, though I feel as though you could elaborate on the first point to link in better with your second point, especially when you mention water. As for the last point, I'm not sure if that really falls under fear, though Truman could most certainly have felt afraid when being threatened.

I also really like the last one which isn't as obvious in the movie and was very well thought out.

Homework instructions: Post a three point plan (your three main ideas) for TWO of the essay topics in the 'The Truman Show Plans' section of the forum. For the other two topics you must reply to someone else's plan with constructive feedback. Remember, when planning ask yourself why and how? Look at the key words of the topic to see if you can form three main ideas based on those. Perhaps look at both sides of the topic and then expand on one of those sides, or add a third side. Ask yourself, if I was to respond to this topic in a three stage conversation, what would those three stages be? Here is one of the four topics: Fear is not the only tool used by Christof to control Truman, but it is the most powerful. Do you agree? 1) Truman is manipulated into staying at Seahaven by physical things that Crtistof placed there such as the water surrounding the entire place (fear for what happened to his father) and other news seen in newspapers. 2) Crtistof tells the actors surrounding Truman to keep him feeling safe and happy where he is so he is fearful of what might lie outside his comfort zone. 3) Truman is manipulated into believing that Seahaven is just like the real world and that he has been protected from the true horrors.

1. Truman is Trapped only within the things he fears, and these fears have been manipulated by Christof from his childhood, fear stood in his path of adventure. 2. The fear though it is elusively hidden, it reflects itself in things like the ocean sickness and with his loved ones. Christof manipulates him primarily thought the ones he loves. 3. As Chrisof's grip starts to slip he begins to hit Truman with reassurance. Reassurance in paper articles and in the spoken words of other actors, but stands as more of a threat to stop Truman from leaving Seahaven . I like your 3rd dot point as it shows great understanding into Cristof's control of Truman.

1. To keep Truman on the set in Seahaven, Christof has implanted a fear of the neighbours dog and of water into Trumans brain and this was done when his father died at sea. 2. Truman's friend marlin and his mother are used to manipulate his emotions and feelings towards things in an attempt to make him feel that he is safe and secure and that there is no need for him to ever leave Seahaven. 3. Christof tries to use fear against Truman when he wants to convince him to stay on the island. He tells Truman that he is trying to shield him from the horrific outer world beyond the dome. I agree with what you have said
