Maycomb is a small southern town in Alabama that is segregated by both colour and socio-economic class. Atticus Finch is the father of Scout who is of the age of six at the beginning of the novel, and Jem who is ten. He is a lawyer and he is related to almost everyone in the town by marriage. The Finch's are at the top of the social ladder, as they are white and fairly wealthy.

I feel the reason for this besides being white and wealthy is their morals and ethics. You can see that the Finch's are much more rational and moral-driven compared to the other families in Maycomb.

Atticus finch is the father of Scout and Jem, Atticus decides to became a lawyer near Maycomb. Maycomb was an old town near the finches landing, about twenty miles east. The finch family had a cook named Calpurnia, she looked after Jem and Scout after their mother had died. She also taught them to respect others fairly.

Scouts explains Maycomb saying "Maycomb was an old town, but it was an tired old town when i first knew it…. Somehow, it was hotter than…. people moved slowly then." Addicus Finch's family is relatively wealthy and their morality was hight than that of lower classes. Addicus was the first in his family to leave his families farm to become a lawyer, his brother later following in his foot steps.

I agree with what both Tyller and Rachel said about the Finch family being a high class family but for people who don't agree with the finch's way of thinking and beliefs, they look down on their family.

in to kill a mocking bird the town of Maycomb is a place in Alabama which has both blacks and whites but majority of the whites don't like the blacks, atticus finch is not part of this stereotype as he tries to love everybody and respect every body, and always does the right thing, like standing up for tm robinson his two children scout who is a tom boy and loves exploring and doing places with dill and her brother jem who is a sports nut and when is in public is embarrassed by scout.

The finch family had a cook named Calpurnia, she looked after Jem and Scout after their mother had died. She also taught them to respect others fairly. I should be mentioned that atticus broke the tradition of the family by becoming a lawyer instead of being a farmer at finch's landing
