Who is Calpurnia? What is her place in the Finch household?

Calpurnia is the African American maid who cares for the Finch's and does the housework which includes cleaning and cooking. She also adopts jobs which would be for a mother such as telling Scout off for yelling at Walter Cunningham. She is also the one who taught Scout to write suggesting she has more of a position in the house compared to other maids in Maycomb.

I believe she also plays an important role in teaching the children what the right thing is to do and she always has something wise to say. She is a very important character as Tyller has said.

I also agree with Tyller that Calpurnia acts as a mother figure in Scout and Jem's lives. She is treated equally amongst the family and is shown respect and trust.
