What is Walter Cunningham like? What does his behaviour during lunch suggest about his home life?

During lunch Scout comments the fact the Walter is drowning his food in molasses, this shows that in his house he doesn't have it often as if it was readily available he would use a smaller amount.

During lunch Scout comments the fact the Walter is drowning his food in molasses, this shows that in his house he doesn't have it often as if it was readily available he would use a smaller amount. After Scout has yelled at him, Walter puts his hands in his lap and ducks his head. This suggests that he usually does this to say sorry when he is at home as he did not speak whilst doing this. |

Walter is a poor but hard working man, even though he has no choice. Walter is also quite a shy man.
