Why does Atticus save Miss Maudie's oak rocking chair?

He saves her rocking chair because he understands it is important to her and he knows that the smaller things are important in life. Miss Maudie particularly enjoys sitting on her front porch and rocking in that chair.

Atticus saves Miss Maidies oak rocking chair because he knows that it is important to her and she likes to sit on to on her front porch. I agree as she always sat in the rocking chair at the front porch to he would have thought it was very important to her.
