He is explaining how Scout will need to control her ante as they are going to go through a lot in the next couple of months, although he purposely tells Uncle Jack whilst Scout is listening because he wants her to hear it.

Does Scout learn anything from overhearing Atticus conversation with Uncle Jack? What might this be as scout overheard Atticus talking with uncle jack, Atticus said that scout needs to contain her temper whenever she get mad. I agree with georgiadp about Atticus not telling her off earlier as he purposely wanted her to hear every word in the conversation.

From eavesdropping on Atticus' conversation with Uncle Jack, Scout learns that really tough times are ahead. Atticus explains how he has no way of winning the case because a white man's word always wins against a black man's.
