In this chapter Atticus tells his children that “it's a sin to kill a mockingbird”. What reason does he give for saying this?

The mockingbird represents Tom and there is an underlying meaning to his message when he explains it to the children.

Mockingbirds don't do anything to hurt us, all they do is make nice music. That's why it's a sin. The mockingbird symbolises Tom Robinson.

Atticus declared that it was a sin to kill a mockingbird because Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, don't do one thing but sing their hearts out of us.

The mockingbird represents Tom and there is an underlying meaning to his message when he explains it to the children. Mockingbirds are are nice and they make peaceful music and that's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.

The mockingbird represents Tom and there is an underlying meaning to his message when he explains it to the children. Atticus also explains that a mockingbird doesn't do anything to harm them as they just make nice music to listen too.

The reason Atticus gives for saying "it's a sin to kill a mockingbird" because the mockingbirds are just innocent birds that create music and don't do us any harm. The mockingbird symbolises Tom Robinson.

Tom Robinson is considered a mockingbird because he wasn't hurting anyone but he was still killed which is a sin.
