What is the function of having such a lengthy description of Jem and Scout playing in the snow? Integrate a quote into your answer. By giving a lenghty description of Jem and Scount playing in the snow and working "hard now," to make a "real snow man," Harper Lee has depicted their child like innocence. The function of this may be so we have something to contrast their behaviours to as they start to grow up. I agree that this part had a lot to do with the innocence of the kids, and i like how you mentioned that it could help us see the different behaviours as they grow.

The function of the lengthy description was to show how Scout and Jem are still in their childhood and how they are still innocent

Jem and Scout playing with the snow is a reminder that they are still kids and how they are innocent. I agree on how it shows that they are still innocent and in their childhood

What is the function of having such a lengthy description of Jem and Scout playing in the snow? Integrate a quote into your answer. The purpose of having such a long description, as the novel does, is to have somewhat of a break where we can see the children act as children amongst all of the events occurring around them. We can tell their innocence through what they say for example when Scout says, "he looks like Miss Stephanie with her hands on her hips." This also highlights the remains of Jem's childhood before he begins to really grow up.

I agree with you that it does show how they mature later in the book.

The function and immportance of having a longer and more descriptive description of Scout and Jem building "a real snowman" was to show both youthfulness and innocence. This also serves as a reminder that they are still only just children.
