Why is Atticus mildly amused when Scout tells him, "If you don't want me to grow up talkin' that way, why do you send me to school?" Integrate a quote into your answer.

Atticus is mildly amused by Scout's attempt to avoid school because it shows how innocent and childish she is. She's too young to understand that her education is important for her future and is genuinely confused why Atticus would keep making her go to school if she could pick up a few bad words and "grow up talkin' that way."

Atticus is amused because he knows Scout doesn't understand how important her education is. Atticus doesn't want her to become an "ignorant, trashy" person, and he knows that being able to read and write is worth her learning a few bad words.

It is amusing for Atticus for Scout to say she doesn't want to go to school if she is going to learn some board words because he knows how much she loves reading and learning and is amused by her naivety to want to throw it all away. He is also amused because he knows how much she admires him for being intelligent so cool update imagine that she wouldn't want to continue school and learning

Scout tries to persuade Atticus by saying "If you don't want me to grow up talkin' that way..." In the hopes that he will not send her to school so her way of speaking doesn't change. This amuses Atticus because it shows how childlike scout still is and how she doesn't undertsnad the befefit of school.
