What does the text reveal when Scout says in Chapter 12, "[By watching [Calpurnia] I began to think there was some skill in being a girl"? Scout begins to realise that being a lady might not be as dreary as she previously believed and through watching Calpurnia she "began to think there was some skill in being a girl." Scout also thought that being a girl was all about dressing up nicely and being proper, things she thought to be easy however, watching Cal cook and clean makes her realise there is more to being a girl and that it might be harder than she first imagined.

What does the text reveal when Scout says in Chapter 12, "[By watching [Calpurnia] I began to think there was some skill in being a girl"? It reveals that Scout realises that there is much more than she thought to being a girl and this gives her some more respect for Calpurnia as well as the other women in her life. Now she can see it much more than wearing dresses and saying the right thing.

When Scout says, "By watching [Calpurnia] I began to think there was some skill I'm being a girl", it reveals that she is realising that being a lady isn't easy. It seems like it wouldn't be hard but Scout begins to see that there is actually a lot of work involved in being a girl.

I agree with your points and I think this might be a point at which Scout realises that being a girl wasn't be as bad as she thought.

When Scout 'began to think there was some skill in being a girl', this reveals that despite what society norms tell us, it is very hard to "be a girl". Scout might've believed that being a girl was wearing pink frilly dresses, being polite and not fighting, but after watching Calpurnia, she realises it's much more difficult than one would think. I agree with what you say. She might think that there are important qualities a girl needs to be a normal girl. But also, it actually takes practise to do jobs which women are doing in that time. I also agree with what's being discussed here. Being a woman doesn't necessarily mean dressing up in pink which Scout begins to figure out. She understands that to "be a girl" requires patience and practice. I think that by watching Calpurnia Scout realises that things are more difficult than they can first appear.
