Atticus says that Mrs. Dubose is a model of real courage rather than “a man with a gun in his hand.” What was her courageous act? What does he mean? Do you think he is right?

Before her death, Mrs. Dubose decided to go off her morphine, which she had become addicted to. Without this, she would be more likely to have "fits". Atticus believes that there is more courage needed to give up a addiction then there is to hold a gun in your hand. I agree with him in this case.

Mrs. Dubose has the courage to end her addiction to morphine before her death and not a lot of people have the courage to it.

Mrs. Dubose's courageous act is that she chose to end her addiction to morphine before her death, which is a very hard thing to do. Atticus believes that a "man with a gun in his hand" may sport a weapon, but real courage is an inner quality, rather than an external possession.

Mrs. Dubose has the courage to end her addiction to morphine before her death. I believe in think because Atticus believes it's harder to beat an addiction to drugs than pick a gun up in your hand.
