Her father seems very protective over Mayella in the courtroom as he always has his arm around her but there is suspicion that he hurts her. Her relationship with her father is not healthy. He takes his rath out on her at home and beats her. Because this is all Mayella knows, she thinks this is normal. And so when she is in court she defends him because that's what he told her to do, and bad things would probably happen if she didn't do what she was told. |

Mayella is scared of her father because he abusing her. He is most of the time drunk and this makes him have a short temper. He pretends to have a good relationship with his daughter in public.

Mayella father seemed all most over protective of her in the court room. It definitely was not a natural look for them, it seemed very unhealthy.
