How is the theme of courage explored in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird
> Physical Courage Jem had the courage to run up and touch Boo Radley's house. "Touch the house, that's all?"
The men in the finch neighbourhood ran into Mrs Maudie's house to retrieve her belongings. "The men of Maycomb, in all degrees of dress and undress, took furniture from Ms Maudie's house."
Boo Radley had the courage to fight Bob Ewell and save the children. "Mr Ewell was tryin' to squeeze me to death. I reckon- then someone yanked Mr Ewell down."
>Emotional Courage Scout uses emotional courage when she walks away from fighting Cicil Jacobs. "Somehow, if I fought Cecil Jacobs I would let Atticus down."
Mrs Dubose not using pain killers while she's dying. "[Mrs Dubose] [is] the bravest person he had ever [known]"
Jem not bragging to everyone about Atticus being the best gunman in town. "[reckons] if he wanted [them] to know, he'da told [them]"
> Moral Courage Atticus represents a black man even though he knows he'll lose. "When it's a white mans word against a black man, the white man always wins."
Mr Cunningham's constant payment of his debt to Atticus "Not with money, but before the year's out I'll have been paid. You watch."
Courage from Jem as he constantly returns to Mrs Dubose's house to read to her, even though he doesn't want to.
