Miss Maudie tells Jem that "things are never as bad as they seem." What reasons does she give for this view?

Miss Maudie reasons for this view are that there are a lot of good people in the world and that positive changes are coming and that Judge Taylor appointed Atticus because he knew he could handle this case better than any other lawyer.

I agree, miss maudie' saying is just like the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover". As she tells Jem that not everything or anyone is always bad.

Ms Maudie tells Jem that at times it seems only bad things and people are in the world but that's not quite true. There is always something better just around the corner.

Miss Maudie reassures Jem that "things are never as bad as they seem", adding that "there are some men in this world who were born to do our unpleasant jobs for us. Your father’s one of them.” What this statement means is that Atticus may have lost the court case for Tom Robinson but things will get better.

Atticus may not have won the court case, but things will get better.
