Explain why Scout thinks Miss Gates is a hypocrite. Integrate a quote into your response. Scout thinks Miss Gats is a hypocrite because as they were doing a class assignment on Hitler one day, she seizures that chance to talk about the difference between a democracy and a dictatorship and how terrible Hitler is to persecute Jews. This confuses Scout and she asks Jem, "how can you hate Hitler so bad and be so ugly about folks right at home." Scout cannot understand how after coming out of the courthouse for Tom's trial she heard Miss Gates talk about teaching the black people a lesson yet she condemns the acts of Hitler against the Jewish.

I agree that Miss Gates is a hypocrite. She knows the definition of democracy, but she doesn't apply it to her own community. She's oblivious to the fact that there are still people who are being unfairly persecuted in Maycomb. She should feel the same as if it was Hitler doing it, yet she doesn't.

Scout believes Miss Gates to be a hypocrite as she is strongly against Hitler and what his acts against the Jewish, however she herself wanted to teach members of the black community in Maycomb a lesson after Tom Robinson's court trial. Scout asks Miss Gates how she could hate Hitler easily but "be so ugly about folks right at home".

She believes Hitler is horrible for persecuting the Jewish just because of their race, when she is racist towards the African-Americans.

Scout thinks Miss Gates is a hypocrite because she criticizes Hitler for his treatment of the Jews, when she herself is racist towards Negroes. Miss Gates claims that "Over here we don't believe in persecuting anybody. Persecution comes from people who are prejudiced" however, she herself has prejudices towards the negroes.

Explain why Scout thinks Miss Gates is a hypocrite. Integrate a quote into your response. Miss Gates was so angry at Hitler for holding prejudice against Jewish people and doing all of those evil things to them in Germany. She also explained to her class that America is a democracy and that they have "equal rights for all, special priveleges for none!" Then when Tom Robinson is prosecuted she says something completely prejudiced and cruel and contradicts everything she said about Hitler, "it's time somebody taught 'em a lesson, they were gettin' way above themselves, an' the next thing they think they can do is marry us."
