Explain briefly how Tom was killed. What is Atticus's explanation for Tom's attempted escape?

As Tom Robinson tried to escape from the prison he was caught an was shot at least 17 times by the police. Atticus's explanation for Tom attempt to escape is that he was shocked and sorrowful about the death of Tom, he also tells Jem and scout about it as well.

As it says in the novel, Tom Robinson tried 'escaping' prison as Atticus explained, “He was running. It was during their exercise period. They said he just broke into a blind raving charge at the fence and started climbing over. Right in front of them... the guards called to him to stop.” Tom Robinson was shot seventeen times which classifies it as a malicious killing, as one bullet can kill someone instantly.

Toms death was sudden and Atticus is told that he was shot 17 times when he was trying to escape prison. His death was brutal and many of the people who supported Tom were shocked as Tom would've realised how long the court took to come up wit their decision and would know there was hope.

Tom was shot 17 times after he supposedly tried to 'escape'. Atticus was shocked about this and explained that Tom wanted to take matters into his own hand and was tired of white men deciding his fate.

tom was killed by 17 bullets from police officers after her tried to escape prison, even though the extra 16 bullets were not necessary. tom tried to escape because after the court trial tom had lost all hope of winning, even though Atticus told him he had a good chance of winning at the state court for the next trial, but tom still lacked faith so he ran and died.

It happen while the prisoner were in the exercise yard. Tom must of being going through a bad time which led to his unthinking actions in where he tried to escape. The guards shot him 17 times. 17 shots were not necessary, but because of their racist society they showed their true form.
