What are your thoughts regarding the atmosphere of the bunk house. Refer to the different characters who are formally or informally introduced in this chapter: Slim, Carlson, Whit and Candy.

When George and Lennie enter the bunkhouse, they get the atmosphere of a very happy place with Candy, an ageing swamper who lost his right hand greeting when they enter the bunkhouse until the boss of the farm comes in and questions why they are a day late and George gives them the reason why they are late. Curley then comes in after the boss and he is the bosses son. He is a rude, bad-tempered and fight picking man who questions why Lennie speaks through George.

The bunkhouse can contain many different atmospheres. From being light hearted to hostile, even being sad when Carlson tells Candy his dog smells and would be suffering less dead.
