HARDER: I felt very old

How is the following statement from Chapter 31 paradoxical?

"I felt very old, but when I looked at the tip of my nose I could see fine misty beads, but looking cross-eyed made me dizzy so I quit."

The following statement from chapter 31 seemed paradoxical because when scout said "...I looked at the tip of my nose..." She refers that she is getting older and when she said "...but looking crossed eyed made me dizzy so I quit" she show a little bit of her childsih act as well. She is still herself, she is still Scout.
