Why does Atticus argue with Tate about how Ewell was killed?

Atticus argues with Tate as since he is a model of honesty and integrity, he wants this event, to be out in the open. He doesn't want any suspicious thoughts to linger. Atticus just wants to do the right thing. What Atticus didn't uderstand is what Boo's role was in all of this and what an investigation might do to Boo.

Atticus argues with Tate about how Elle was killed because he Had thought that Jem killed mr Elle but Tate Taylor knew it was boo all along but didn't say anything about him because he wanted to protect boo and no one liked bob ewell anyways
