Dill had told Jem and ms maudie that when he grows up he wanted to be a clown because he wanted to be funny them laugh at ot at the end. Jem told him that becoming a clown would just have people laugh at him. But then dill replied that he was going to be a different clow and laugh at the audience instead. This is significant because dill just wanted the tow to be happy and forget what happened at the court with the case.

Dill was trying to make the atmosphere lighter, as the court case was weighing down the atmosphere in Maycomb.
