In Jack's attack on Piggy, Piggy's glasses are broken. Why is this incident significant? This attack is signifigant because Piggys glasses were the reason the boys could start the fire in chapter 2. In a way the glasses were symbolic to being able to start a fire and the fire has the power to keep them warm, cook food and give off smoke to rescue searchers. Without the power to start the fire this could resemble the unition of the boys falling apart. I agree that without the glasses the boys won't be able to stay united. I also think that the glasses are symbolic of the level of civilisation that the boys are showing. Now that the glasses are half broken, it could represent that the boys' community has already half fallen apart.

In Jack's attack on Piggy, Piggy's glasses are broken. Why is this incident significant? Though Piggy doesn't seem significant, his glasses are. For none of the boys know how to start a fire without them. The boys would be lost without the glasses. Lost with his glasses is Piggy's small amount of power, of reason and the right to speak. Piggy (science and logic) isn't being recognised as a part of their society and as a person, being ignored. They don't seem to listen to his advice and is only being used for his essentials (specs)

In Jack's attack on Piggy, Piggy's glasses are broken. Why is this incident significant? Jacks attack on piggy resulted in Piggys glasses being broken which is important because earlier on, the boys needed the glasses to start the fire because none of them knew how to start one without an aid of some sort. The glasses being broken symbolises that jacks violence is taking over and Piggy's scientific and reasonable thoughts are being attacked and broken by jack. It shows that reasoning and thought are being ignored by jack and this shows later on when jack send two boys to get fire from Ralph and piggy because they still don't know how to light one.
