Even though he doesn't want to admit it, Ralph is very jealous of the fun that the hunters have. Hey may be doing what is right for the boys, but he isn't doing what's fun. He wishes that he was one of the boys that made the others laugh. He is envious because the hunters were able to do something and get food for the others.

Also, Ralph and Jack are both doing jobs that help the rest of the boys, but Ralph's job is not fun, whereas Jack's seems to be.

Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? Ralph is very envious and resentful of all the fun and enjoyment Jack and the hunters are experiencing when doing their job. Ralph however, is stuck doing a job that is right by the other boys but not enjoyable for him. I think he is also a bit jealous of the way the hunters were able to still help the boys by providing meat and food, while he was working really hard and the boys never seemed to realise it.

Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? Ralph is "envious and resentful" because he is being forced to be responsible and sensible, even though he doesn't enjoy it, whilst the choir boys get to go hunting - something they enjoy. Although both boys are doing jobs that help all of the other boys, Ralph feels it is unfair that he is forced to slave away doing something he hates while Jack gets to do something he enjoys.

I agree, Ralph doesn't get the recognition he deserves from the boys. He is resentful because the smoke that could have taken them home was exchanged for the meat they have now, the meat that Jack is getting praised for.

Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? Ralph is quite envious of the fact that whilst he is stuck working very hard, it appears that Jack and the hunters are really enjoying themselves. Jack's job appears to be much more entertaining and rewarding (at least that what it seems like) then Ralph's. Jack's job seems to be accomplishing more than Ralph's and I believe that would get on his nerves a bit. I feel sorry for Ralph as he is working hard, but no one seems to give him enough appreciation.

Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? Ralph is resentful of the fact that even though everybody is out doing there jobs, the hunters enjoy there job while he does not. He doesn't want to admit it but he is very jelous that the hunters have fun while he is working hard and doesn't enjoy his tasks. Ralph thinks that it's unfair that the hunters get a lot of credit for going out and having fun yet Ralph doesn't get recognition for the hard work his doing.

Ralph sees they way the hunters act around each other once they have come back from hunting because they are laughing and having fun. However Ralph isn't having any fun because none of the boys are helping him with building the huts except from Simon but the other boys don't mind helping Jack with the hunting.

Ralph would also feel lonely because he only has Simon to help and keep him company. Whilst Jack is enjoying himself with a group of boys to spend the day with. If Ralph stays envious and resentful, he could make unwise decisions, leaving his position open for people like Jack to fill. Having less supporters would also disadvantage Ralph.

I also think that Ralph is envious of the recongnition that Jack gets for all his work and efforts. The boys don't give him any credit which is unfair as they are both doing important jobs.

Jack is having fun, but he enjoys his job. I think this is mostly what Ralph is jealous about. But he has a sense of guilt as the boys are providing meat. I like the way you answered this one Hope!.

Ralph is jelous of the fact that Jack is having fun while hunting and doing his job, Ralph wants to be able to have fun while he is doing his job. He wishes he could make the boys laugh and we wished his that with his job he was abctually able to do something.

Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? I think ralph is envious because although he knows that the right thing is to build shelters and be rescued, a big part of him wants to whoop and cheer with the boys and hunt to become a man. To put it in an analogy, most people, even if sport disinterests them, still wishes they could thrive as an athlete.

Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? I believe Ralph feels like this because he is stuck doing the job he doesn't enjoy, without help, while Jack and the choir boys are hunting, something that Jack in-particular enjoys and find entertaining. I also think that he feels like this because the doesn't feel the boys appreciate what his doing, and that they do appreciate Jack as he is providing the food.
