Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? Ralph is "envious and resentful" because he is being forced to be responsible and sensible, even though he doesn't enjoy it, whilst the choir boys get to go hunting - something they enjoy. Although both boys are doing jobs that help all of the other boys, Ralph feels it is unfair that he is forced to slave away doing something he hates while Jack gets to do something he enjoys. I agree that Ralph is resentful because he's stuck doing the jobs he doesn't like but I also think that he's jealous of Jack because everybody appreciates what Jack is doing for the group, he gets instant respect for killing a pig, while nobody cares when Ralph builds shelters for them and they're all completely disinterested in the signal fire Ralph insists upon, even though that's their only chance of being rescued.

Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? I think ralph is envious because although he knows that the right thing is to build shelters and be rescued, a big part of him wants to whoop and cheer with the boys and hunt to become a man. To put it in an analogy, most people, even if sport disinterests them, still wishes they could thrive as an athlete. I believe he also wants to prove to the boys that he can be a better leader than Jack because some of the boys are beginning to prefer Jack, and that he could create a funner society with plentyful food if the hunters become productive.

Even though he doesn't want to admit it, Ralph is very jealous of the fun that the hunters have. Hey may be doing what is right for the boys, but he isn't doing what's fun. He wishes that he was one of the boys that made the others laugh. He is envious because the hunters were able to do something and get food for the others. Although he is envious, I believe that he did the right thing by the boys and it was for the best that the boys did something more productive and something that could help them be rescued eventually rather than have fun but risk not getting found by others.

Why is Ralph "envious and resentful"? Ralph is quite envious of the fact that whilst he is stuck working very hard, it appears that Jack and the hunters are really enjoying themselves. Jack's job appears to be much more entertaining and rewarding (at least that what it seems like) then Ralph's. Jack's job seems to be accomplishing more than Ralph's and I believe that would get on his nerves a bit. I feel sorry for Ralph as he is working hard, but no one seems to give him enough appreciation. He may also envy Jack's group, as his boys eagerly follow his orders willingly and have fun.
