Candy's feelings toward this daunting situation are reluctant at first. He doesn't want to give the dog up, even when Carlson pointed out that he could have one of Slim's pups. He was scared to let Carlson do the duty of putting the old girl out of her misery. When he finally allows Carlson to shoot her, and the shot goes off, Candy rolls over in bed, stricken with grief. After, he protests in guilt to George that he should have done it himself.

Candy feels pressured by the men in the room forcing him to kill the dog because he is too smelly and too physically unable to do anything Once he goes through with it he wishes he did it and not Carlson. This leaves him very sad and also guilty.

Candys feelings are very hesitant at first, because the thought of losing his bestfriend saddeneds him. After while of going back and forth between Candy and Carlson, Carlson finially gets Candy to believe that his dog stinks, and is leading a miserable life who is always in pain and would even feel getting shot, Candy let Carlson kill his dog.

Candy would have felt really sad because he had the dog since it was a pup. It's was so cruel, for a pup, Curley shows us that he got cold blood

once Carlson shot his dog, Candy rolled over and was so very very upset, he felt guilty and wish he had shot his dog himself.
