Lennie hides next to the river where George told him from the beginning. He went to hide because he accidentaly killed Curley's wife.

Lennie is hiding because it is was goerge told him to do if he gets in to trouble and he has killed Curleys wife and that means he will be in trouble

Lennie is hiding because he accidentally killed Curley's wife. He remembered the time when George told him if anything happens or goes wrong to meet him where the river is. So that's what he did.
