Why did Ralph fail to convince the assembly that they should follow the rules and trust him?

Ralph failed to convince the other boys to follow the rules and trust him because fear has taken control of the boys minds. They have stopped listening to Ralph and Piggy's logic and just let their fear of the beastie get out of hand. Jack also tries to get the boys to listen to him and not Ralph, shouting, "Bollocks to the rules! We're strong--we hunt! If there's a beast we'll hunt it down! We'll close in and beat and beat and beat--" This makes the boys shout and scream and, led by Jack, the assembly shreds away, leaving just Ralph, Piggy and Simon.

Why did Ralph fail to convince the assembly that they should follow the rules and trust him? The boys have a lot of fear inside of them now, I think that they don't listen to Ralph because his ideas are more logical, and with the logic comes the fact that the things that scare the boys are still out there and they feel they need to attack instead of be safe. Jack starts controlling the assembly

I agree that fear has taken over the part of the boys minds where Ralph and piggys reading used to be. And because the feeling is fear, jacks violence seems good to the boys because they would want to rid themselves of the fear by attacking it and getting revenge in the beastie in a way.

Why did Ralph fail to convince the assembly that they should follow the rules and trust him? All of the boys on the island are more fearful and scared then they used to be when they followed Ralph without question. Now though, as their fear increases, Jack seems to make more logical sense to the boys as they want to attack.
