What are the purpose and effect of Jack‟s generosity with the meat he and the hunters obtained? What do you think his decision to give meat to even Ralph and Piggy is meant to show?

Jack shares meat with Ralph and Piggy in an attempt to win their favour and persuade them to join his tribe so that he can have control over all of the boys. I think his decision is meant to show that the 'evil' side may look nice, but in fact they were just trying to win them over and show them that if they joined Jack's tribe, they would have delicious succulent meat instead of just fruit. However, if Ralph joins Jack's tribe, the fire will no longer continue burning and they will never get rescued.

Jack is definitely attempting to win over the remainder of the boys, Simon, Ralph and Piggy, by enticing them with meat. He wants to have complete control over the island so he will then be free to do whatever he likes without anyone standing in his way. |

When Jack shares his meat with Ralph and Piggy, this shows that he want to manipulate them and persuade them to join his tribe of boys. He bribes them by giving them food that he and his hunters caught in an attempt to grow his tribe and eventually start a tribe where he alone is the leader. He shows them that if they come with him, they will have meat instead of the berries and fruit that they have now. |

I think Jack offers Ralph and Piggy meat becuase he is trying to win them over and look good in front of the other boys. He wants control over the island and is saying that if you join my tribe, you will get meat.

Jack is trying to convert Ralph and Piggy to his tribe. Jack wants to be the head of the island and to achieve this he needs Ralph to agree to be apart of his tribe. Jack wants to be in charge of the boys on the island so that they can live on the island with no intention of being rescued. Ralph staying out of Jacks tribe is the only hope the boys have of survival. |

The boys are grateful for the meat as they cannot afford to say no, and are now in debt to Jack. Jack giving Ralph and Piggy meat is almost Jack asking for their surrender to his tribe; he has the power that Ralph has lost. |

The boys are grateful for the meat as they cannot afford to say no, and are now in debt to Jack. Jack giving Ralph and Piggy meat is almost Jack asking for their surrender to his tribe; he has the power that Ralph has lost. He is definitely trying to win over Piggy and Ralph to his tribe, and I also think that this makes Jack look like the bigger man, by sharing his meat with the enemy. |

Jack is trying to bribe Ralph and Piggy into his tribe, and he is certain he will succeed. If Ralph agrees to join Jack, all sanity will be lost, and they will have no chance of rescue. |

Because Jack has wanted to be chief the whole time, he has now tactically bribed Ralph and Piggy to be grateful for him. This gives him the chance to force demands on the two boys. And the act of kindness has then made the two boys vulnerable to losing members from the group to join Jack's group. Jack's use of tactics can show that he is still being thoughtful of his actions and will be smart about the things he wants. |

Jack's generosity to give so e meat to Ralph and Piggy was more of a bpasting technique. He is letting them know he is now the 'Alpha male', amd is far more capable of survival as leader than the others. Jack is simply offering Ralph a chance to surrender.

I feel that it was Jacks idea to show that evilness can appear to be nice and kind, it's making the boys think and worry less about what they are doing if they also are doing some good stuff, or what seems like good stuff on the surface |

I think Jack shares the meat he has hunted with the help of his hunters in order to come across to everyone, that he is a fair and generous chief, that is there to help anyone that needs it. He also does this to win over as many of the boys as he can so they will join his tribe. He is also trying to prove a point to Ralph and Piggy by being so accommodating to them. Showing them who is the 'true leader' on the island.

He may also want to boast to Ralph that he has won the fight, he is now the doninant leader on the island, and the meat is a symbol of what Ralph wasn't good enough to achieve. |
