Why didn't Jack and the hunters come for the conch? Jack and his hunters did not want the conch as Piggy had expected rather they wanted Piggy's glasses. By the tribe not taking the conch, might suggest that Jack has no desire for a democratic sort of group but a tribe where Jack rules alone. The conch represented authority and predominantly the authority of Ralph so Jack would not want to have it. I think that not only did Jack take the glasses to light a fire, but it is also symbolic of a possible change in intelligence.

As Jack steals the glasses, he is taking the main asset for the building of a fire. This is creating a big disadvantage for Ralph's group because without fire and smoke there is no hope for rescue, which is one of the main things attaching them to civilisation. The glasses were also protecting them, allowing the chance to argue against Jack's group because they held the valuable item.

Why didn't Jack and the hunters come for the conch? Because they don't believe in its importance anymore. They came for the glasses because that is something they need to survive. They don't want the conch because they've reverted to a dictatorship and no longer believe in freedom of speech.

Exactly. they still hold the power of democracy, but that means nothing without the power they hold over Jack's group by being in possession of fire.

He needed the glasses to make fire so that is what they took.

Why didn't Jack and the hunters come for the conch? Jack does not need the conch to run his tribe. He does not believe in the order and civilisation that the conch brings. The conch was something specific to ralohs tribe and the way he runs things but Jack runs his tribe differently. The conch is no use to Jack whislt the glasses will be useful for jacks tribe to cook the pigs they hunt.

Jack and his hunters didn't come for the conch because it symbolises order and civilisation. Jack isn't after these sort of qualities and he never believed in the conch because he thought not all of the boys deserved the right to share their opinions, rather, he believed some should learn to keep their mouth shut. He has no need for the conch and without it, it means that he can be the only leader and have the only say in the tribe.

Jack also already has a large amount of power so why should he bother stealing something that would give him something he already has?

He doesn't want the boys to respect the conch's authority, just his own.

Why didn't Jack and the hunters come for the conch? Jack and his hunters did not come for the conch as Jack doesn't believe it is nessicary for his tribe to have it. The conch represents civilisation and democracy and Jack doesn't think this is useful or helpful. They came for Piggy's glasses as they are something that the tribe needs to survive - not the conch like Piggy thinks.

I also think that the conch represents Ralph's authority over the group as it was his symbol of power. Jack doesn't want to have Ralph's conch as it represents Ralph and his leadership instead of Jack.

Why didn't Jack and the hunters come for the conch? Jacks hunters didn't come for the conch because it represents civilisation, order and authority. All of these are things that Jack doesn't want to have. What he wants is power, and that is what Piggys glasses give him.

They did not come for the conch they actually came because they wanted piggys glasses so they could start a fire of their own so they could cook the pigs that they kill.

With Ralph and Piggy lossing the glasses this means that they will possibly never get off the island as they could not light a signal fire.
