Scout blames Walter for being the reason she got in trouble and thats why she beats him up. Miss Caroline, the new teacher tries to give Walter some money because he has no lunch, but he doesn't want to take it. Scout explains that the Cunninghams are poor and don't have enough money for food, and that they also have a lot of pride so they won't take any help from others. Miss Caroline doesn't like that Scout said this so she got into trouble and that's why she beat up Walter.

Scout tried to tell Miss Caroline that the Cunningham's want to sustain their pride so Walter refuses to take the money. Miss Caroline tells Scout off for explaining why Walter won't take the money. Scout then blames Walter that she got into trouble and beats him up.

Scout beats up Walter due to Walter getting Scout in trouble so she blames him for getting into trouble so scout beats him up and Jem stops the fight. Scout got into trouble for trying to help Walter keep his pride regarding lunch money. She was however misunderstood by Miss Caroline who thought she was just being sassy to the teacher. This leads to Scout beating up Walter.

miss caroline sees that walter Cunningham doesn't have any lunch and she offers him some money for the canteen, but rejects it. due to miss caroline being confused as to why, scout explains and says that the Cunningham's are poor people but also have great pride so they would not be able to pay her back and was to proud to take her money, miss caroline being the stupid teacher she is tells scout off for "sassing" the teacher, which makes scout furious at walter for getting her in trouble but jem steps in and puts the fight to a halt and makes scout apologise and invites walter over to their house for dinner

Scout blames Walter for being the reason why she got in trouble and so she gets beaten up. It's the other way around, Scout beat up Walter because she blamed him for getting into trouble while trying to defend his pride for not accepting the money from Miss Caroline.
