Explain in your own words what Atticus thinks of insults like “nigger-lover”. To what extent do you agree with him?

Atticus believes that the term nigger lover is just a pointless saying, that don't really mean anything. I believe this is true because people don't really believes he's in love with 'niggers' but they just say that to try and offend him.

atticus invites the name nigger lover as he tells scout that he tries his best to love everybody. black or white, bad or good, young and old, ect,. I think that it would only be an insult to a racist, for there really is nothing wrong with liking a black person as the book suggests.

This comment doesn't affect Atticus because he doesn't care what people think, he just wants to stand up for what he believes is right. He tells Scout he does his best to love everybody, and that it's not an insult to be called such a discriminated name.

In Atticus's point of view, 'nigger-lover' is a stupid word that doesn't mean anything and it's a word to describe someone.

Atticus does not seem bothered by these stupid name callings as he knows that he is doing the right thing by standing by Tom Robinson and that there is no truth to what they are saying. He doesn't 'love' the 'black' people but instead he treats them equally so I agree that he should continue to not think twice about such comments.

I strongly agree with all the statements above. For Atticus, the term ‘Nigger-Lover’ “is just one of those terms that don’t mean anything….ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebody’s favouring Negroes over and above themselves”. Atticus also added “I do my best to love everybody” and he doesn’t think it is an insult to be called what other people think as a bad name. Therefore, the term does not affect him at all because he follows his conscience while still respecting other peoples for their opinions.
I think the people in Maycomb were using this term to insult Atticus but it doesn’t impact him. I strongly agree that people should not be affected by what other people think/say because it is more important to do what you believe is right and stick to your principles rather than following the wrong crowd sometimes.

Atticus accepts that the word is something that is 'okay' to say from those people, he doesn't think much of the word itself and he doesn't make a big deal of it.

Atticus believes that only "trashy" people use that term and it doesn't bother him as he tries to love everyone.

He doesn't think to much of that term as he loves everyone. Atticus believes everyone is equal weather they have black or white skin, he doesn't discriminate people. he almost wears this belief as a badge, therefore people saying he is a 'nigger-lover' is almost a compliment even though it was said as an insult.
