What was (and is) the Ku Klux Klan? What do you think of Atticus's comment about it?

The Ku Klux Klan was group who disguised themselves in white robes, they would beat, murder and torture mainly African-Americans. Atticus tells Jem that the KKK will never come back, he says this to try and comfort his worried children as this topic seem to distress them.

The KKK targeted African-Americans and they wore white bed sheets. Atticus wants to assure Jem and Scout they won't harm any more people of colour. 'The Ku Klux's gone,' said Atticus. 'It'll never come back.' His statement about them not coming back is ironic as a later a smaller group with Ku Klux motives form later in the chapter outside the jail. |

Yes they did wear disguises And tortured the African-Americans. But jem was worried that the KKK are goning to get Atticus because he he treats and loves the African Americans. |
