Atticus believes in equality, shown through his determination to defend Tom legally, and to protect him physically from the mob at the jail. |

Atticus believes that every man of every colour should be treating each other with respect and equalitity. There should be no race hierarchy.

As he says "when it's a white man's word against a black man, the white man always wins" it portrays that the society he lives does not support equality amongst all races.

I believe Atticus believes that we should treat everyone equally and with respect. This is shown by the way that he talks to the Ewells the same way as he talks to Tom, and everyone else. It is also shown when Atticus tells Scout, "I try to love everybody". |

I like and agree with the point that the current society Atticus lives in does not support his views. Because of this, it is hard to promote change of state with the lack of support. |

Atticus is a respectable man and feels that everyone should be treated equally, regardless of the colour of their skin. He says that he "tries to love everyone" and demonstrates this by representing a coloured man legally.
