Why is Jack angry at his failure to catch a pig? Jack is angry at his failure to catch a pig probably because he had a chance previously to kill one, but let it get away with the promise he would strike next time. He wants to prove himself to the other boys ( As well as himself) and show that he isn't too weak to kill and is a worthy leader of the hunters.

Ralph also seems mad at Jack, as he has been trying to hunt whilst he and Simon were building shelters and he was unable to secure them any edible meat.

Jack is angry that he can't kill a pig because he could have easily gotten one before, but got to scared. He said there'd be no mercy next time as he wants to prove himself to the other boys. But now Jack is having difficulty finding and killing another.

Why is Jack angry at his failure to catch a pig? Jack is angry and disappointed at his failure in catching a pig. He had the perfect chance when they first arrived and he let it go. Jack feels as though he now needs to redeem himself and make up for his inability to kill the animal when he had the chance. I also think that Jack feels as though catching a pig will gain the other boys trust and admiration, as leader of the hunters, so being not able to catch one would make him feel not very highly of himself.

Why is Jack angry at his failure to catch a pig? I think Jack is ashamed of himself, he has previously had the chance not only to catch the pig, but to kill it. He has now faltered on both occasions. He has not kept his word, he cant prove himself or his authority as the leader if he can not live up to his word.

Why is Jack angry at his failure to catch a pig? Jack is upset at the fact that, when given the perfect chance, he could not bring himself to murder the pig. I swears at the next opportunity he is given, that he will murder the pig in order to make up for the fact that he let the other one go. I think the thing to remember from this is that although the boys are put in a situation where they are forced to be grown up, all the boys their are still children.

Why is Jack angry at his failure to catch a pig? Jack is angry that he hasn't been able to catch a pig because of his previous encounter with a pig. The last time he had the chance to kill a pig he was to afraid to cut live flesh. he was embarrassed about this and promised himself and the other boys that he WILL kill a pig the next time he has the opportunity. He wants to prove to the boys that he can catch a pig so he can be seen as a leader.

I Like your point here Remi, after re-reading this portion of the book, i too can see that though they are being forced to grow up, they cannot. They are as you said still children, they are expecting too much of themselves as Jack did with killing the pig.

That is a good point about the fact that the boys are still children. Jack seemed to be out of his depth in his first experience with the pig because he is so young. He won't let that situation go and he isn't having any luck with killing another pig. It shows that he isn't as grown up as he wants to be and that frustrates him.

But now Jack is having difficulty finding and killing another. I agree Jack is trying to prove his worth and wants to come off as a strong and capable asset to the group. He desperately wants to slay a pig and show that he isn't weak or scared.

Jack is angry at his failure to catch the pig because the last time he had an easy opportunity to kill the pig but he couldn't bring himself to do it. Now that Jack has an ambition to find and kill a pig, he can't find one kill. He also finds the need to prove to the others, that is capable of being able to kill a pig.

I agree, Jack is angry with himself and is enveloped in this madness to capture and kill a wild pig. We are constantly reminded of this, as the author writes of the 'opaque, mad look' that comes into his eyes whenever he talks of killing.

I agree that the main cause of Jacks anger is because he didn't kill the first pig when he had a chance, he has less patients now towards hunting. I also think perhaps he thought it would be easy to hunt, because the first time he attempts the pig was trapped, and would of been an easy kill.

Why is Jack angry at his failure to catch a pig? I think Jack is angry at his failure to capture the pig because the primitive male gene has started to come out and he just wants to kill but he can't satisfy his need. And in doing so he is feeling like he isn't doing what he said he would.
