When they were younger, George enjoyed playing jokes on Lennie. Why did George stop doing this?

George stopped playing jokes on Lennie because on one occasion, George told Lennie to jump in the river, knowing very well that he couldn't swim. After they got him out, Lennie didn't remember a thing. George felt bad for doing this because he wasn't properly looking after him, therefore he stopped.

George stopped playing jokes because he did not want to see Lennie die because of silly jokes George played on Lennie. |

When George and Lennie were younger, George used to play tricks on Lennie, but it was no fun because Lennie never understood that he just had a joke played on him. So one day, George tells Lennie to jump into a lake where a group of boys were standing around. So without questioning, Lennie jumps in even though he does not know how to swim. Lennie is so thankful when George pulls him out. From that day George has always been protective of lennie

When they were younger George used to play jokes on Lennie but it wasn't funny until Lennie jumped into the river and nearly drown because of his jokes and that is why he doesn't do it anymore.

The reason for George stopping the jokes on Lennie was because,when they were younger George said to jump in the river, Lennie cant swim and once Lennie did jumped, he could no longer remember what happened. George was so guilty and felt so bad he never played a joke on him since
